UBC Library Staff and SLAIS Students Participate in Workshop

On Sept 12, UBC Librarians, Library staff, and students from the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies Program are learning about and discussing the roles of library and information workers with the TRC.

Sept 12 Library WorkshopThis workshop for library staff and SLAIS students will commence with foundational information about the Indian Residential School System in Canada, introduced by Rick Ouellet (UBC Longhouse’s Student and Community Development Officer). Dr. Lisa Nathan (iSchool Assistant Professor and First Nations Curriculum Concentration Coordinator) will then facilitate a discussion amongst participants, focusing on library practice around Indian Residential School topics. Drawing upon the model of the well-received CTLT Aboriginal Initiatives: Classroom Climate Series, this session will pose a variety of questions such as, “How might supporting awareness and understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and related initiatives enhance your work and the work of your institution?” Participants will be provided with space and time to discuss particularly challenging
